Rogers Question (is it woth buying?)

Loading...

Hey, im brand new on the forum and from reading some of the threads i figured some of you guys can help me. Ive always wanted a vintage rogers or ludwig kit, and ive had my eye on a vintage 70's Rogers kit at a local music shop in my area, from my (uninformed) inspections it seems to be like the perfect kit for me. The sizes are 14x10, 18x16, and 24x14. If i were to buy a new set it would be these sizes (im really in to the BIG classic bonham type sound) and aimed towards producing a vintage sound, so i figured id just buy a vintage kit, ive always been a strong believer in the "they just dont make 'em like they used to" philosophy. So i was wondering if it is worth buying and if so can you provide any more information on shell material, ply etc.

Ive pasted a link to a pic and the store's site description of the kit, just so you know im not getting the snare and the kit is 1,299.

Any help that can be provided would be greatly appreciated.

Twice too high in my opinion. There are too many nice kits out there in the sizes you want for less money, that include the 2-350 dollars worth of missing hardware, (and Im only talking bass drum hardware here, mounts, tom arm, cymbal arm, if this is a swivo, pre 75 kit)

However, Chances are, if the Snare is a Big R, the kit was a big R, and thats not early seventies. That would be 75-79 if they had the 5 ply gray spatter interior, and after 79 with 8 ply clear interior. So the description has a real chance to be misleading, either as an oversight or intent. I would pass.

The Toms and BD have script badges. Early 70's with those ft leg mounts.

You should be able to find a equal size kit and recover it for lots less money. Most people do not want those large sizes, so you should be able to find some for a better price. Little Patience and you will be rewarded.

On ebay - Maple Pearl made in USA in the sizes you want.

Or Ludwig - sell the pieces you don't want.

Up through 1977 you did indeed get the fullerton swivo mounts on the floor tom. Im not exactly sure when it changed...... possibly 78 or early 79 prior to the introduction of the XP8 shell. I have seen 5 ply gray spatter interior FTs with the memrilock mounts. My kit is Nov. 1977. Fullerton Swivo mounts. Big R. Memrilock everything else. And its a 24, 13, 16, 18.

Hey, looks like they have some nice fibes sets. If your not hell bent on Rogers then get a Fibes set. Those lugs are a big turn on for me. Im a Ludwig and Rogers guy, but ide kill for a fibes snare. I dont care what it sounds like, there just so beautiful, and with that badge with the mirrored logo..... stunning!
