Rogers Project -- Which Way To Go?

Loading...

I've got some vintage (1950s) Rogers pieces in WMP and am trying to decide whether to put them together as a cocktail kit, like Rogers' Astoria or Parklane kits, or to go the "traditional route", with the basic set-up.

I'll provide my reasoning for each, but first let me tell you what I've got:

Holiday 16 x 16 floor tom w/B&B lugs, Cleveland Tag & Eagle Badge;

Holiday 14 x 5 snare drum w/B&B lugs, Cleveland Tag & Eagle Badge; and

Holiday 12 x 8 rack tom w/B&B lugs, Cleveland Tag & Rogers Script Badge.

All pieces are in extremely sound condition, both cosmetically and functionally. There is minimal to no cracking on most of the B&B lugs, the WMP finish has aged beautifully and none of the pieces have any extra holes in their respective shells.

NOW FOR WHICH CHOICE TO MAKE............

Along with the above three pieces, I've got a matching 14 x 20 bass drum w/B&B lugs, Cleveland Tag & Rogers Script Badge. However, it's a Mercury Model in lieu of a Holiday.

My original plan was to sell the Mercury bass drum and wait until I find a matching Holiday model AT A REASONABLE PRICE (is that possible?) to complete the kit. However, I'm starting to believe that chances of doing so are slim to none and, even if I did, I doubt that the "fade" of the bass drum would match my current pieces.

The cocktail configuration came into mind based on the fact that the floor tom's got four additional Knobby mounts installed on the upper portion of the shell. My assumption can only be that, at one time, this one was in fact used as part of a cocktail kit. My reluctance here, however, is that I'm unsure if I could actually find the additional pieces (i.e., reverse bass pedal, mounts, etc.) that would be needed to complete this configuration. I like to keep my vintage drums and kits as original as possible and I'm not sure whether I could do so with this one.

WELL................let me have it! Your thoughts, comments, suggestions, additional information, etc. are welcome, as always!

I guess that I could also take "the easy way out" and keep the snare drum and sell the rest!

THANKS in advance to all for your time. Sorry about the length of this particular post.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS to all!x-mas3

Nice stock pile!!

Frankly I feel very strongly both ways!! How's that for help.;)

Work on collecting the pieces to make it a cocktail kit... after all that is why Rogers stuck all those mounts on the floor tom. Maybe cobble it together with some cheaper aftermarket stuff to see if you like the way it plays. Then spend the big bucks on the Rogers gear.

I'm building a Vespe cocktail kit on the cheap just for fun... conversation piece to stick beside the piano since my full kit was relegated to the basement for domestic tranquility

But never give up on the Holiday bass drum.. it will show up.

:2Cents: (maybe even just a pennies worth)

Not a Guru... just interested..
