Rogers kickdrum question

Loading...

Got this 22" kick tonight. First question - that tom mount seems a long way back compared to my 20". Are all these holes original? Serial indicates 1970? The collets are all diecast. The last image is a scrap of wrap I found. Looks like silver sparkle. Came with bass drum tom mount; and one and 1/2 knobbie mounts. Any information much appreciated.

In the 68 Catalog, they show the Cozy Cole Constellation, in about those same positions.

Silver Sparkle was the color inlay for black wrap.

When exactly did Rogers switch the hoop inlays from Silver Sparkle to Ebony? The double bass, Ebony set I special ordered in 1975 came with two 22" basses with matching Ebony inlay on the hoops, but a 24" Fullerton I just picked up has the Silver Sparkle inlay. What is period-correct for Ebony bass drums, and does anyone have an explanation as to why Rogers even produced these non-matching Silver Sparkle hoops?

Thanks Ploughman - you are always very helpful with this stuff. I'm wondering though - I saw the Constellation and it's all Powertone. Nothing to stop them using an older shell of course but this one has a Holiday tag. And was it normal to not have a hole for the tom mount? Wouldn't that really limit the amount of adjustment?
