Rogers holiday

Loading...

A few years ago I sold an old Rogers set for $350. I recently tracked it down and had to pay $500 to get it back. It's still in pretty good shape with only some minnor problems with some of the hardware. The good news is that all the shells are in good shape. It is a sparkle blue Rogers Holiday made in Dayton.

The numbers are:

kick = 113837

tom 12" = 112963

tom 13" = 113999

floor 16 = 107161

The questions that I have for all of you:

What is the year?

Should it have an original snare?

Is it easy to track down the missing hardware?

Was $500 a good price to pay?

Is it unusual for the serial numbers to be spread out like that?

Thanks,

Troy Lynch

I think.......

6 digit numbers, probably speckled grey interior, late 1968, early 1969 before the Fullerton Move.

Londoner V configuration, Snare could have been a COB Powertone or Dynasonic.

Hardware from Ebay.

5 bills wasnt bad.

Not unusual at all for the numbers to be spread around.

Ah, now, theres were we will differ. Any days comparison of ebay prices of finished auctions on collector quality sets of Rogers and Slingerland will have Rogers significantly higher. Collector quality Rogers sets in 4 piece configurations, ...........without snare drums, so, essentially a three piece suite, will easily fetch between a thousand and 2000.00. Those same three piecers in rare colors or with matching snare drums, not wood dynasonics, can see 1500-3000.00. I dont think Slingerland is selling at that level.

Good point...Rogers collectors are very much about the color.I have a friend who would pay huge for green sprkl at this time.Solid colors dont seem to interest collectors. The same could be said for Slings and actually they had very different finishes i believe;denim etc....I cant figure it out.Rogers guys remind me a lot of Sonor collectors. They pay big...but for perfection.

More questions:

So would my kit be consider collectable?

I also noticed that the bass drum has T-lugs and claws on one end and regular tension rods and claws on the other, is this correct?

Thanks

No thats not correct. I think yours might should have had bowtie Ts and claws that match this kit. First kit is a 1964 in Red Ripple, second kit is a mid 1966 Dayton low serial nos. with flat gray interiors,

This is as close to perfect as you can get without it being new. Or having that non existent perfect mating 6.5 x14 Dynasonic with the beavertails and clockface strainer to go with it. The hoops have been retouched. I need a new pic.

Those would be correct for late dayton use. Not knowing which exactly you had, without seeing them, its always hard to say. T's and claws are correct. Regular tension rods are not. ........ A set of 8-10 T's and claws in fine condition will run you between 60 and 90.00 on ebay. You can see them on some of the drums in the 1968 catalogue. You can also see some bowties on others.
