Rogers hex rod alternative

Loading...

this may already be well known as an alternative for Rogers folks who aren't 'purists' but I found a place, OnlineMetals.com, that sells 3/8's stainless (variety of grades) hex rod custom cut to measure. I just rec'd lengths of 18" and 2 at 9" for a cymbal rod and spurs for a Mercury BD I'm putting together. $30 bucks shipped! Sure, they don't have the dowel insert stops but I found a local machine shop that'll do the grinding, tapping and welding cheap. some light polishing with fine steel wool and they shine up very, very nicely. For a gigging kit this has worked out extremely well. All I need now is the tilter top for that cymbal rod....

Damaged hex floor tom leg can be used for rod parts if you have an old one around. Old hex cymbal rod as well.

If you want brand new custom manufactured parts, my friend Jim Petty machines them himself in Texas. He also makes parts for Ludwigs, Slingerlands, etc. The prices are in line with what you will find on eBay for vintage parts. check it out. I have absolutely no finacncial stake in Jim's company. He is my good friend who has worked his magic on some of my vintage drums. Look under the listings for "parts".
