Rogers grey interior

Hi All

I'm back with another question for the Rogers experts. I have a "block" finish Rogers Big R badge. All drums start with the "D" on the pages. All are (6 digit) D750xxx or D754xxx, except the 24" bass drum, that is D730xxx . All have speckle grey interior, except for one drum, the 14" tom. The s/n is D754xxx. The interior is grey, but just flat grey, NO SPECKLES. This is shown on the left vs the 13" tom on the right, which has the speckles. Did Rogers routinely paint some interiors just grey, then some with the white speckles? From what I've learned/researched, the S/N with the "D" and Big R badges with 6 digits, are from the same year(s), give or take. Could this have been added later, could it have been painted over the natural wood interior by someone other than the factory? It has the reinforced rings, and appears to be 5 ply re-rings and 5 ply shell, as best as I can count. I'd love to know what you all think.

Regards

Looks like an attempt to remove the gray speckled interior finish from the one drum.

Yes, that looks like someone sanded down the interior. Why someone would sand away a perfectly good speckled interior is anybody's guess, but it won't affect the drum's sound in any perceivable way. The grommet doesn't appear to be affected by the modification.
