mac - I'm surprised you haven't run over to Home Depot, or Lowes etc. they all have pitch gauges you can use for free to find thread pitch on just about any size bolt.

The thread is 10-32. I believe I have one of those specialty Rogers nuts. Let me look when I get home later today. I'm currently trapped with my girlfriend at her mom's house in Pasadena. The freeway is packed with people leaving the parade! If I have that part, it's yours!

Thank you so much for all your help. First, I'm surprised the thread is just the common 10-32, as the shaft would not thread smoothly into Lowes' mounted 10-32 thread gauge. This convinced salesmen at both Lowes and Home Depot that it couldn't be 10-32, but it wouldn't be the first time they were mistaken. Maybe the end of my shaft is stripped or peened to prevent the nut from backing off, and this prevented it from threading into the 10-32 gauge.

Thanks Mike and please keep us posted how things go.

On the earlier drums, the threads were pinched with a needlenose pliers or similar tool after the tone control was assembled. On later drums, a locknut was used instead.

When disassembling an earlier unit, I try to chase the threads with a die before taking it apart. Sometimes this is not possible, because the die will not start on the mashed-up threads. In that case, with some lube and some patience and muscle, the shaft can be backed out of the slotted nut.

I received the package and expected to see just the slotted nut in a small envelope, so I was stunned to find the slotted nut mounted on a "like-new" tone control shaft along with the proper locking nut and original spring. Geez, you practically gave me a whole tone control mechanism! Your generosity is greatly appreciated, and thanks to you, a Cleveland tom is now wearing the proper attire. Needless to say, I owe you one.
