Great pics Mark... Saw Roy do a clinic/Big R thing in Sydney mid 70's...absolutely brilliant clinician.. My wife had cataract surgery on one eye last year and the other recently in March.. still waiting final assessment of the final outcome but they really do have it down pat these days.. I will possibly be a contender for the same at some point but will now approach it with confidence ..CheersJohn

Hi John!

Roy was a great clinician and a wonderful human being! I saw him in the mid-70's in San Diego.

I trust that your wife is seeing much better now? And, yes, they do have the surgery down pat these days!

Hey Mark,I really enjoy those pictures!Good luck tomorrow! I'm sure everything will be fine. Both of my parents had the same surgery and both came out much better afterwards with no problems and they both said it was easy. Thanks for sharing and those pictures will look even better in a few days!

V!

I'm heading out very soon to where the procedure will be performed. Really looking forward to clear vision!

As for my drumming "career", I've been very fortunate to sometimes be in the right place at the right time! I never thought I'd have such a large picture of myself, playing my Rogers, in the Los Angeles Times and then being pictured in Modern Drummer with Roy Burns. The only other item of real significance to me is my autographed dollar bill by Buddy Rich. I worked up the courage to approach him at Disneyland as he was finishing up a set. Buddy was very gracious and happily signed my dollar bill!

Hi everyone! Yes, I'm back! Surgery went well and I have this big clear patch over my left eye! Driving me crazy due to itches that I can't reach to scratch! I'm on my way back to the doctor very soon to have the patch removed. Will let you all know what happens...and I'll look for more pictures to post! Thanks again to my VDF family for all the well wishes and commenting on the pictures!

Mark,

Just curious... that's not a Rogers set in the pic with you and Roy Burns, but it appears to have Rogers Memriloc tom mounts. I can't enlarge it enough to see the lugs. Do you remember what it was?

From Drum Doug

Hey Mark - Thanks for sharing the cool old pics. I was hanging and giging in your neck of the woods back in the 70's. Did you ever check out Universal Drum center in Pomona ? I was the drum teacher there 75-79. Don't worry about your eye surgery - nothing to it these days.Rock on ! - Doug

Hi Doug!

Yes, I remember Universal Drum Center! I scan way too much stuff! Luckily, though, I scanned the front cover of the Slingerland 1976 catalog I picked up for free on one of my visits. I hope you can see the "Universal Drum" sticker!

My eye is doing really well!

Hi Mike!

I remember that kit very well! It was a late 60's Yamaha, fitted with the Rogers Memriloc tom holder. See the provided picture of a similar kit. I also posted the picture with Roy, to make it easier to see that the lugs are the same.
