Rogers Black Strata Tom

Loading...

This is a second post to stir up a Rogers black strata mounted tom. 8x12 best and 9x13 also good. Need the rock strata pattern more so than the oystery pattern if possible, but would consider any to make a full set for the time being.

I also want to say what a pleasure it was dealing with Keith Fox on the 14x14. The sale post is closed, so taking the opportunity here. As smooth a transaction as one could ask for and the drum is absolutely gorgeous. Thanks again Keith!

Though I do not have a 12 black strata,I'd like to say the same. It was a pleasure dealing with Dan. I keep a eye out for you Dan, post some pics when you have the bass.

Thanks again,

Keith

You know who may have what you seek is Bobby at the drum farm. I check there myself. Ive only heard good things about Bobby, seems like a great guy and has tons of rogers stuff.

Trying again. Any black strata out there? 12 tom, 14x20 bass or 20,12,16 set???? Needs to be '68 era or close with the rock strata pattern rather than the later pattern that looks like oyster black pearl.

Thanks,

Dan

Bummer!

I'll try to make contact, but I'm in MA, so a long ways away.

Thanks for letting me know though. I wouldn't have searched in Vancouver, but I will now.

Curious what is Rock strata vs Oyster strata?

The earlier versions of the black strata pearl used by Rogers give more of the appearance of the strata through a rock formation. As time moved on, the finished they used was closer to that used by Ludwig in the late 50's and in the 60's. That finish looks more like an oyster shell, thus the reference to oyster black pearl in Ludwig catalogs.

I speculate that when Ludwig dropped the finish and began using the "bowling ball" version of oyster pearls in black and blue as you round the corner from the 60's to the 70's, and then Rogers was obtaining what Ludwig had left behind and the stata was no longer used by Rogers.

Is this a Rogers thing? I've never heard it described this way, or for that matter never knew there were different looking versions. What would you call the ones in the vancouver listing? Do you have a sample pic of both types?
