Rogers Big R KOA wrap seam repair Q's.......

Was wondering if a few of the Rogers guys could help me out. I'm helping a friend cleanup his Big R kit in KOA wrap. I understand this wrap is formica. The seams are lifting slightly and we'd like to repair them. What is the best glue for this job?

Also are the Stewart MacDonald products ok for a detail polish on the KOA wrap? It's very much like the Novus 1 detail polish but has no silicone. Or is there a better product we should use on the formica?

Thanks!

Glenn.

Glenn, Novus for the polish, use the #2 if needed, but I wouldn't stray from Novus on any wrap. If you want to protect it, use car wax.

As far as any repair, I would recommend using masking tape at the seam to protect it and use Super Glue for minor stuff.

Hi Gary, hope you've been well. Seams on the floor toms are probably the worst and lifting up 1-2" inwards from top to bottom. For now the lugs are holding them from lifting further. Bass and mounted toms are not too bad. Yes for sure we'll mask off the wrap areas and use a long block of wood the length of the shells clamped top and bottom. We'll give the super glue a shot.

The Stewart Mac products are mainly geared towards guitars. Comparable to the Novus products. I've used them on both Slingerland kits with their scratch remover with excellent results. These Big R shells are very clean wrap wise just a wipedown with damp cotton towel and I'll try the car wax on them.

Thanks~!

Glenn, if the lugs are the only things holding the wrap down, it sounds like more than simple seam lift. Remove the lugs and see how much of the wrap comes away. If it's more than just the seam, re-coat both surfaces with a good water based contact cement, allow them to dry to tack... then stick it down and clamp it up. It'll be tight to the shell and won't give your friend any problems in the future.

Have fun... let your friend do 'some' of the work. Don't hog it all for yourself! lol

Too many great drums to list here!

Hi John thanks! Yes it's a bit more than just the seam on some of them. Both floor toms mainly are the worst. I'll give the contact cement a shot. Yep I'll have him doing most of the work too. Thanks!
