Rogers Beavertail Lugs - Help needed

Loading...

I was comparing a couple of Rogers beavertail lugs and noticed that though the lugs are the same size they look different if you take them off of the drum and look at the inside of the lug. One of the lugs has a farily thick wall and hefty "foot" while the other has a much thinner wall. As you would guess the first lug is quite a but heavier than the second. Does anyone know when and where each of these lugs might have been made?

Thanks...SC

scolner!...

The real "short" answer is that the heavier cast Beavertails are from Rogers Cleveland manufacture, in other words, the Grossman era, when quality was the buzzword at Rogers! After CBS bought Rogers, the quality started to "slip"... this was reflected in many areas, not the least of which were the Beavertail lugs. They were now MUCH THINNER, and eventually didn't even have springs between the threaded inserts as CBS/Rogers went to a "C" clip/ring as yet another money saving, ie: CHEAP venture. CBS bought Rogers in 1967, so anything prior to that and slightly after as there was remaining stock, are the nice quality pieces. By 1975, the Beavertails were garbage... THIN with very sharp edges that could over time, actually "cut" into the wraps!
