Rogers B & B Mardi Gras Set

Loading...

This is my newest and my last acquistion for a long time! (I hope). This is a Rogers Constellation drum set in Mardi Gras with Bread & Butter Lugs. The sizes are 22-13-16 with a matching 5X14 Holiday snare. It is in beautiful original condition, no cracked lugs, no rust. all nice and clean shiny chrome and a beautiful Mardi Gras finish. I really like this black Mardi Gras finish. It is from 1961 approximately.

Mike,

How many kits have you acquired in the past 12 months?

Just Curious.

Gary,

Every single kit that I now have I got since the beginning of the year. I sold 3 kits prior to that and I bought 6 kits in the last 6 months, so a total of 8 in the past year. I must be crazy or addicted/ probably both.

I really can't afford to buy any more, but I think I got exactly what I had been looking for and they are all very nice complete and original sets. Each set is the 22-13-16 (2 are 14) with a matching snare in the rare confetti type finishes from the late 50's to the mid 60's, and each of the main American drum companies are represented - Rogers, Leedy, Slingerland & Ludwig.

This all started when I sold that Ludwig Champagne Sparkle kit on Ebay if you remember. I had this plan in mind and now that I have executed it, I guess I can enjoy learning and playing these drums and enjoy looking at them too.

Which I Do!

Ploughman,

Thanks I feel very fortunate to have gotten this collection together so quickly, I really had big time help by 1 person, my California friend who set me up with 3 of these sets - and it all started when I contacted him about a Rogers Mardi Gras kit he had for sale on Ebay a while back - and those are the only sets that I didn't get through him!

I was lucky, because I am sure that I would have spent alot more money trying complete some sets that were not exactly what I wanted but were cheaper to buy initially, the problem is, I end up spending the same or more money to fix up a kit than to pay a premium for a nice complete set that is exactly what I want and in good condition.

Anyhow, thanks for the compliment on the drums, it is satisfying to say the least - it helps me feel better about what I have done!

Mike

This picture is of all of my other drum sets except for a beautiful 1958 Leedy Shelley Manne kit in Fiesta Pearl - so I have 6 sets altogether and no more room in my basement or money in the bank - but I love these drums!

I got a little crazy this year also. A second Gretsch kit, a rogers, two camcos, a Leedy, a Roland TD6 added to my original Gretsch Green Monster and my son's blue Vistalite.

I'm off loading the Leedy on eBay now. If I don't get my price I'm going to give them to my brother. I have to share the basement with PA equipment, a gym, air hockey and thousands of toys. I can only have two sets out at once and room for 4 other players to be able to move around. I should have bought a ranch, they have the biggest basements.

You know Gary I am squeezing it to have the 4 kits out plus I have a nook on the other side where I set up one kit by itself with the PA and bass/guitar amps. The other part of the basement is set up to watch TV.

Ranches definitely are more spread out and open. It is funny because I was thinking that we should have bought this other house when we were looking a year or two ago. I thought that I could have set up a drum room in the basement with shelves and have all my drums set up with the band equipment and have the room sound proofed.

It's pretty bad when you think about buying a house to acommodate your drums! Weren't you looking at a very expensive Gretsch set Gary. I know zero about Gretsch but they seem to be right up there with Rogers in terms of dedicated vintage owners and reputation. I hope you get that set and post some pictures of it in the gallery. It is fun sharing these sets with the forum.

Thanks Mike

THe dealer put the kit on hold for a female pro player and won't speak to me about it unless she passes on the kit. I was there first but the dealer has this extablished client. I guessed Cindy Blackmon, a huge Gretsch fan and the vendor wouldn't tell me. I think the itch passed.
