Rogers 380 pics/badge

Loading...

Hi guys,

I am considering picking up a Rogers 380 and am have learned that the early ones were made by Yamaha and the later ones were not so good & made in Taiwan. Can somebody post some pics of the badge of a Yammy era one and any pics of that so I can make sure this is one of those. I will likewise do the same when I get them from the seller.

Also, any thoughts on these would be greatly appreciated. The ones in question have re-rings and the gray painted interiors. They have split wrap issues, but are a gorgeous WHITE SATIN wrap.

Ah-what am I thinking....once we look at some pics and discuss, please PM me if you are interested in these.....VERY AFFORDABLE....and I will send you to the seller instead of me. He is in Toledo and is a great guy. I would like them for myself, but should not acquire another kit! Hard to watch a good deal go though - sure you can relate. and this is not a flipper as much as a players kit to buy and use.

12,13,16,22 - no snare

Thanks,

John

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

John,A fast way to tell age of these drums. Is the 60's badge is a big round one in silver with R-380 by rogers. The lugs somewhat looks like Ludwig /rogers shape lugs they will have three lines that run down the face of the lug...The other r-380 drums from the 80's sticker badge R-380 lugs look like pearl type of lugs.....Mikey

PLEASE HELP DATE THESE!!

Ok, I see this informative post from you, Mikey....at the same time, I am also learning more about these on other forums.

I have scored some pics. Mikey, you say (probably) 60s...but I also learned that these could be as late as '79.

BTW - my memory failed, not White Satin wrap - but a gorgeous White Pearl.....wow...buying these for sure.

Could someone help confirm/date these as accurately as possible? Please....

Next pic-the toms - the Luddy mount was a common practice as the Luddy hardware was superior - but should not be used to date this kit.

However, notice the mounting is the spade/clip style.

Thanks,

John

This appears to be an 80's Rogers import set. The "fatter" lugs are a

tip-off. Obviously, the luddie tom mount has been added. I'd suggest

going to the Roger Owners Forum to learn more. I do not have any

interest in the later Rogers(import) products. I don't recall how many

plies the shells are, but they are more than a 3-ply makeup. Good starter

set, though. Hope this helps.

I have found a pic of this kit completely restored. However, I do not know how to reach the "Candy Store" people to ask them about it. Nice to see though.

Hey Rfreek - thanks for your thoughts on this. Other forums indicate 60s made by Yamaha, birch/'luan' (Phil. Mahogany) and owners of this kit cite their Yamaha quality and love their sound. I really like that they have the gray painted interiors with the re-rings. Yet to discover a kit with those features that sounds bad.

I wonder if Jonnistix will have this knowledge - pipe in if you are reading this, John.

ah - what the heck - might as well post this pic.

I have consulted some Rogers catalogs and they are not very helpful at all. I am sure this is due to their (admittance?) that these are not really Rogers kits. They seem to not even mention them in their catalogs.

I believe the clip style tom mounting indicate 60s or 70s, as well as the badge, though not entirely convinced these are THAT old (60s) but maybe I am wrong. I am just seeking comfirmation and more specific dating. Eventually I will re-wrap this kit with the same color as this color is the least expensive of all, with the only exception being solids perhaps. Then, this old wrap will surely yield enough for a snare and BD hoop inlays. Right now there are only steel hoops and I think there is no snare at all.

Until I feel like tackling that project and paying for that, I will just hide the wrap splits and consider it a players kit. Gee, never had a Yammy before :) BTW, think I should update my intentions - gonna buy this one and play her for myself - too good a deal and not a worthy flip. They will have a good home - just maybe jealous of her 'siblings', as I can't play them all at once!
