Rogers 18" Bass drum. Legit? I need your thoughts Roger experts!! Last viewed: 12 hours ago

Hi,

I need some help with a 18" Rogers bass drum I just found for sale close to my city. I'm mostly a Gretsch guy and I really don't know so much about Rogers drums.

The bass drum looks good, don't have extra holes and all the hardware is there. My doubts are about the finish (is this the KOA finish?), the hoops, the era/year and it look kind of strange to me that the badge is reversed?

Also, if somebody can help me dating it and tell me which is the market value of this drum it will be very helpful.

Thank you!

Any extra repaired holes where floor tom mounts would have been? Also, the tom + cymbal mounts should be centered on the shell. At least that's where mine was.

Hi jmoll!

What I think this is, is a converted 16x18 floor tom. An "official" bass drum would have only been 14" deep. The lugs are tom lugs, not bass drum lugs. I thought the cymbal holder and swivo tom holder were in odd positions, but soon realized that the spacing from the front of the shell is in alignment with the swivo bass leg mounts. Rogers used 4 leg mounts on floor toms over 16", so this makes sense. Since the hole pattern is the same, it's easy to drill a hole for the tom mount and also add the L-arm cymbal mount. And, yes, it does appear to be a Koa finish, which also dates this past where that "Fullerton" tag would indicate. The tom mount is too far forward for practical mounting of a rack tom, so you'd most likely have to use a stand for the rack tom.

Do you know how much the seller is asking? Let us know what happens.

Interesting that the badge is upside down as well. It has the same hole pattern either way, so an be put in correct orientation if you like.

Agree with 4 leg tom conversion, especially with the original hole pattern for tom lugs showing.

Thank you guys, the floor tom conversion was my thought too. I will pass on it because I really don't need it. The price is 600€ (the seller is willing to down to 500€), I think this would be a great price if was the real deal, but being a floor tom conversion lost my interest.

I think you're making the right decision. While it is a cool piece, as a conversion, it needs to be priced accordingly.

Probably sounds like an atom bomb.

If it was cheap enough I’d be interested. Collect some other orphans and make a cool bar kit out of it.
