Rocket Snare - Gretsch Lugs??

Loading...

So I've had this snare for some time and have always loved it. What attracted me to it in the first place was the strainer system and how the snares attach. But since I got my 50's Gretsch Renown I noticed the lugs on both are the same. I'll have to take both snares apart and get into the lugs. But anyone else come across these?

Green Glass I'll try and snap a better one today and some point. Mlayton I've never seen another like it. Under the lugs It's a bit bluer ( but not by much ) Anyone maybe know that color? ( also try and get a better wrap photo ) The badge does say Imported by The Hershman Musical Co. New York.

The strainer and throw are interesting. Like a Slingerland clamshell knockoff. Nice wrap. Wonder if original it came with extended snare wires?

Hello ARCHxANGEL

Your Rocket snare is identical to a Norma snare that is part of this four piece Norma kit I have here

same clam shell copy throw same Gretsch copy lugs

And same cool looking wrap

In my case the beautiful blue element (intact only under the lugs and on the bass hoop inlays) of the wrap

is so washed away due to uv exposure that from a distance

the kit appears sort of a textured greenish-grey silver

from a closer distance what was originally that nice semi translucent blue

is now nearly transparent and allows much of the wood grain from the shell underneath to show through

At first I was put off with the severe fading and almost backed out of buying them

But my very first drum set was a Norma set in orange sparkle

although that snare drum did not have the clam shell throw

So anyway for purely nostalgic reasons

and with some successful price dickering .....here they now sit

I have decided to leave them exactly as they are

That's awesome. Would love to know what the name of this finish was. Well now I know there are more drums with this wrap out there. Certainly can't be many though.

ARCHxANGEL I am fairly certain that sooner or later

one of our members will not only know the name of the wrap

But will most likely post the original color chart from a catalog

I agree I have not seen this wrap very often

The only other time before seeing yours

was when I purchased some super roached out Japanese shells

(one of them turned out being a Slingerland) from a guy on Craig's list

Of the odd assortment was this bass drum shell

with our identical wrap and lugs

all the drums were in terrible condition but I bought them for next to nothing

only to rescue the blue marine pearl Tempro snare drum
