RIP Charlie..

He created a great & diverse repertoire of songs with the Stones. I have equally enjoyed some of Charlies' work with other musos...

Never saw him performing live but wish that I had..

Sadly missed..

I recall joining my snare drum to a friend's snare as a tom and trying to replicate Satisfaction as a 12 or maybe 13 year old in the summer of 65. The thing that I took note of as much as anything with Charlie Watts was his lifestyle, so much apart from his bandmates. They were loyal guys and had him on every recording and tour.

Not coming down for breakfast, but certainly leaving a drumming legacy for many years to come.

Yep, that's about the same with me, Dan. He played for the song, not for his own ego or showmanship! Not many like that today.

Brian

Just a drummer who loves all things about vintage drums! Nothing more, nothing less.

Steve Maxell has a nice tribute statement on his website with some interesting history. He mentions finding Charlie's sky blue Ludwig when in Charlie's recall it had been given away a long time earlier. Quite a find.

Another iconic drummer passes. He was also an avid vintage and world drum collector! Sad but he was very influential. The very first song I ever played with other musicians behind a kit in a garage band was Brown Sugar. He will always be in my memories as an influence to my learning to play the drums.

No Guru - I just love collecting & learning about vintage drums!

Some of my favorites from the kits in the collection
58 WFL New Yorker Blue Sparkle
67 Ludwig Hollywood Red Psychedelic
69 Ludwig Standard Red Ruby Strata
70's Ludwig BOP "Ringo" Kit

A few of my favorite snares
20's Leedy Black Elite
51 Leedy & Ludwig Knob Tension
58 WFL Buddy Rich Classic Blue Sparkle
63 Walberg & Auge Sea Blue Agave Green Pearl
66 Leedy Shelly Manne Blue Agate Pearl

The Stones wouldn't still be around without Charlie. He was the yin to the rest of the band's yang. That's for certain.
