Hello,

My name is James and im a new member here. I have had a snare drum that resembles those of Ringos ever since i was in elementary school i have kept it in a hard shell case for the last 15 years and was looking at this site and decided to pull it out and take a look the date inside says Dec 22 1965 and it has a serial number of 247086 and what appears to be the original Ludwig weather master db 300 drum head on the bottom. I have included some pictures for you to look at. i was wondering what it might be worth.

Thanks in advance for your time

James

The pictures are too large to attach so Ive uploaded them.

Looks like either a 6 lug Super Classic or a Pioneer with a changed out throw. That's odd.

6 luggers were touted as student snares or beginner snares. They have a different sound than an 8 lug, not better or worse just different. A lot of guy's like 6 luggers better. I think a 6 lug in the same wrap as yours in good condition could bring close to a grand, maybe more.

Welcome! Do you live in Tucson?

Anyway, if you want the market value, search ebay completed auctions. Look for SOLD items, that are the same, or atleast very close, 8 lugs, or Jazz Festival, or as mcj staed a Super Classic. Be wary of PMs offering here. There are many people lurking quietly to take advantage of people such as yourself. They would offer you a right now, very nice sounding deal that may in fact be several hundred off the mark.

That is a seriously nice drum! Hope you love it daily. And you are if selling, well, it ain't worth all that much..I'll trade you a 1967 Star chrome over steel snare in almost new condition.....Excited

Seriously though, a very nice and valuable drum!

Look like Lee St, around Swan/Grant.

This snare could be worth 2000-3000. I say and stress COULD be worth that. It is a buyers market, but that is the snare.

One of the more Ludwig oriented members will come along soon and give a better valuation, but that is number we see some of these go for. Is the strainer original? That will make a difference as well. Collectors, especially snare guys, want complete, correct originals.

Ahh, yes. It is indeed 8 lugs. That would make it an 8 lug SuperClassic. I blame the cat.

A quick scan of ebay completed listings (as in, these are the ones that sold):

67 OBP 6 lugger - 456

early 60's OBP 8 lugger (rewrap) - 395

68 OBP 8 lugger (rewrap) - 615 (gotta be a fluke)

Standard Blue Strata - 350 ???

Lots of the OBP were listed at over 600 and went unsold. There was even a kit for over 6 grand ... that went unsold - duh.

Man, to put a price on this one ... tough call. Keep in mind, this is not a JazzFest.

On the one hand, it's original and well kept. On the other, it's a SuperClassic throw mech ... not the most desirable. Shoot. Who the heck knows.

My guess ... maybe it will net around 500 ... maybe. It might get into the area of 600, if someone is looking for it. The wild variable is the fact it was stored. That factor can sometimes (but not always) drive up the bidding. I've seen clean ones go relatively cheap and rewraps(!) go for much higher. It's a very unpredictable market where these are concerned. If you hit it on a good day, you may actually hit 900 for the thing. Heck, if you get one of us in a wild and crazy mood, it could hit three grand. Again, who the heck really knows for sure....
