Most cats here couldn't care less @ what you listen to, they care about vintage drums (mostly) 'cause this ain't no music forum. Enjoy your BB's, your Welk, your whatever.

Ringo isn't the greatest R n R drummer ever either. Now I like Ringo. What he is is the most famous. He has some great, interesting beats. I like him more than Watts; but Watts is the more skilled drummer. Moon was hazardous to all, especially Townshend - & that's why he was so great; he killed & kept you guessing. Baker about slaughters them all, even Moon, because he was a killer & his depth and skill never wavered. Whatever

My humor is screwing with people's heads when they make absurd remarks like undermining the Beach Boys in a music forum thread. I aint a kook for nothin ha! I never said the use of studio musicians determins the quality of the music. but when someone disses the BBs its nothing short of sacrilige, joke or not its just asinine,

From vibes

John Lennon was once asked if he thought Ringo was the best drummer in the world, and he replied, "he,s not even the best drummer in The Beatles". I assume he was talking about Paul, who actually played drums on some gigs before they had a regular drummer. Paul played on a couple Beatle tracks as well as all the drums on the Band on the run album.

The more Beatle bios and "tell alls " you read, you get the feeling that Lennon could be, not so much kumbaya, but more of a d*ck at times. He was also guilty at times, for opening his mouth to just change feet.

He apologized several times to Ringo for that remark.Ringo even played on some of Lennons solo work,so I would think ,he appreciated the mans skills.

On Pauls first solo album "McCartney".he played all of the instruments, and all of the drum tracks.

This is why I find it ridiculous, for the Beatles to use studio drummers or guitar players(except for Eric Clapton on 1 tune),other than themselves. They had the studio chops.I mean, can you listen to a Beatle track, from any album, and not know it's Ringo, with the exception os a handful of drum tracks played by Macca?

Obiously the beatles did all the session work on sgt peppers, the white album and abbey rd, but there were session guitarists and drummers on hard days night, help, rubber soul and revolver, EVERYONE was using session players at that time; and just because they chose not to credit them at that time doesnt mean they werent used.

That is completely counterintuitive. They brought in studio players, for the earlier simpler stuff, and played the more difficult stuff themselves on later albums.

That's really your claim?Where's the proof?

If you know anything about their individual playing styles, there is NOTHING on any of those albums that says,it wasn't them playing.

While "everyone"? was using session players at the time ,the Beatles were using ...themselves,and recorded live,as a band, with a scratch vocal.

I KNOW THE BEACH BOYS USED STUDIO MUSICIANS! I NEVER SAID OTHERWISE? The difference is that the ones the beatles used werent credited. I know about billy preston and the horn playerz but Im talkinbou the session guitarists and drummers/ its very difficult to find out who played what on a hard days night, help, rubber soul and revolver BUT its easy to find out who played on pet sounds,, why that is I have no idea.

I don't know what planet you're from, buddy, but the only drummer who ever played on a Beatles session besides Ringo, was Andy White. Paul played drums on a few things here and there, but that's it. And Pretty Purdie did not play on Beatles' sessions. He played on the Sgt. Ppepper soundtrack.

Take your troll-isms elsewhere. We know your game. The OP just asked for a copy of a photo, and you have to turn it into a Beatle-bashing session. Go crawl back under the rock you came from.

You guys are just plain ridiculous. I can hardly believe it.

Back to the actual topic....Thanks K.O.! That head shot could be cropped out and it could be pretty cool! Best one yet for sure!

I hate to bring this thread back to the OP, (in fact, I hate to even keep this thread alive and going) but the OP shows a very young Ringo with what I believe is a 20/12/14 OBP kit with the original Ludwig rail. So when did Ringo switch to the Rogers Swivo tom mount?

Ringo's first 12/14/20 set (the one in the picture this thread is about) had a rail the whole time he used it (and still had the rail later on when it appears that Paul "borrowed" it and used it for early Wings recordings).

Ringo's second set, also 12/14/20 (acquired in the USA in Feb 1964) came with a rail mount and that is how he used it on The Ed Sullivan show and the other appearances they made on that first short American visit. Sometime shortly after returning to England, and before they started filming A Hard Days Night, the rail on set number two was replaced with the Swivo mount.

Sets three and four were what Ringo used on tour and in the studio from mid/late 1964 onward. They were both 13/16/22 sets. Both of them originally had rails as well but these were apparently replaced right away with English Rogers swivo units as the rails don't appear in any photos of those sets.
