Reverb - in other carts

Loading...

When you are looking at an item on Reverb and it indicates that it's in one or more other person's cart, what message does that convey to you?

From the perspective of the other persons, what advantage do you suppose they are intending to achieve having it there if they don't intend to check out relatively soon? Sometimes you notice things are in people's carts for quite some time - days or more.

Am I missing some strategy?

Hi Dan,

I wasn't even aware that it showed if the item was in another person's cart! As for eBay, when I put something in my cart, it means I intend to pay for it within the next few minutes!

Dan,

Consider that it is probably the easiest way to find that 'product' again rapidly without having to search for it.

I think it's less likely that a retailer is putting it in a cart to add some psychological sales pressure... but that doesn't mean that isn't happening either.

On eBay, if you put something in your cart today, and don't buy it immediately, it might not be available when you decide to buy it. In other words, that item is not removed from available inventory by the seller unless you actually commit to buy it.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

Does anyone find that when you surf an item a few times or "watch it" in Reverb that in about a week you get an e-mail that says someone made an offer on the item your watching and if you want it you should go and make an offer? Each one of these I have been sent has not sold and are still available a few weeks later. . . .

I also see on eBay when you surf items a few times and watch them then within a day or so you get an "offer" to buy from the seller with anywhere from a 10-15% discount.

Anyone else get these or am I spending too much time surfing drums?

No Guru - I just love collecting & learning about vintage drums!

Some of my favorites from the kits in the collection
58 WFL New Yorker Blue Sparkle
67 Ludwig Hollywood Red Psychedelic
69 Ludwig Standard Red Ruby Strata
70's Ludwig BOP "Ringo" Kit

A few of my favorite snares
20's Leedy Black Elite
51 Leedy & Ludwig Knob Tension
58 WFL Buddy Rich Classic Blue Sparkle
63 Walberg & Auge Sea Blue Agave Green Pearl
66 Leedy Shelly Manne Blue Agate Pearl

Yes the Ebay offer thing happens with me fairly often too.

These are all pressure tactics from Reverb (the site), not Reverb sellers. As a seller you may not know if someone has your item in their cart. But if you are watching a particular item and someone else puts it in their cart or makes an offer, the Reverb site notifies you as a way of saying "you're gonna miss out on this item."

My brother employs this practice all the time. He’ll research items he is interested in and determine the item that best suits his needs. He may not feel he is in the best financial position to make the purchase on the day he decides which item he wants, so he adds it to his cart with no intention of buying it until later. Once the stars align and he has the money (and maybe the blessing of his wife) he will make the purchase or remove it from his cart.
