? Restoring early 20's Ludwig Snare Drum

Loading...

Hi, this is my first post, I recently acquired an early 1920's 10 lug maple snare drum. The drum needs refinishing. The question I have is on the shell finish, the drum was originally black (under badge). There is also the word "black" stenciled on the inside of the shell which is covered with a thin black wash. The shell at one point was sanded and repainted unprofessionally in a white coat. I know it is best to leave vintage drums alone but I would really like to get this drum back to its original black color. Would I be depreciating the value of the drum by doing this? Thanks for any advice you can give me. RIDrummer

The value at this point should be improved if it is closer to original as possible. Since it has already been changed to what you have at the moment I think a professional finish should improve the drum.

Is the value going to be a big difference? Not that great, but better.

Make sure you take plenty of before and after pictures
