Ok - I'll admit it here. Thanks in part to your opinions, I did a 360 on the Yamaha's. I put in an offer for a set of extremely well used RC's in standard sizes - 12/13/16/22 - and got them. I pick them up tomorrow. They are beaten but very sound. These are the old ones. I will be doing a resto for quite a while. My question - can you remove an 80's Yamaha badge successfully? This kit has two on each tom, only one with a vent. Pics soon!

Congratulations!Clapping Happy2 You did well! I´m happy for you.Jump For Joy
Lucky guy - you got hold of a set of the real good ones!
As for the badges - it will be tough to remove them without bending or destroying them. To me it seems that even the one with the vent hole is glued onto the shell´s surface instead of only being held by the grommet.
Maybe careful warming and something like a razor (thin but bigger, so better to handle) could be a solution? Or does anybody have another idea? Hmmmm
The "good" thing is that you don´t have to care about the coat of laquer...
So I wish you best of luck with this project - and please let us know how you succeed!

Thanks Lissy. Boy - this is an adventure. Think it's worth a thread. My hands are sore from cleaning :-Q I think I have got a very early set of RC's. Even got a 22 x 14 kick! So light! There is a lot of work to be done here. Mine look a bit like these ones on eBay, but the interiors are black. The rack toms have rounded edges and the kick and floor tom have sharper ones.
