Restored pedal pics

From bfulton

Do you mean that "U" shaped part on the heel end of the footboard? If so...I wouldn't know how to fix it.... might be a metal working kind of guy on here who knows....

Here's a pic of where it's broken...just at the end where the rivet goes thru to attach the bottom plate.

IMHO...the pedal's shot. Maybe there is a metal guy who can advise. JB weld? It'd have to be pretty strong stuff!

Questions: About the spring attachment tab? I had to drill a larger hole to thread it. Mainly because the hole in the shaft was way out of round. I tried to fill it with epoxy, etc, and then tap it, but it didn't work. I think I ended up using a #6...

No, the clamp isn't off center, it must be the angle. Weird that yours was drilled off center! Sounds like you have a plan!

Thanks for the reply.. Yes i find it "weird " too.

The pedal pic shows the clamp touching the cutaway guide section of the pedal on the RH side..as result.. this is as straight as the clamp will sit.

The underside shot of the clamp shows why.. the hole is way off centre.. maybe because of the blob of unfinished dross on the casting. they would have used some centering drill jig I guess.

Still ,some sort of assembly QC check should have picked it up surely??

Cheers

John

Wow -- good catch on the cause. It doesn't really look like there's much you can do... unless, like you suggested earlier, you made a groove there, so you could slide it.

That may be plans A,B,and C. I don't see these parts available many places. But you might try http://www.jp2creations.com/

He has a lot of interesting parts...plus he has a machine shop, and does great work. He made an upper pull rod for me for a Ludwig Hi Hat. Not only perfectly made, but CHROMED like the original. I was kind of surprised, because it's hard to find a good chrome shop. And his price was VERY reasonable.

In fact, I'll bet he could do it for you... if you want to travel down the mad path of restorations!

Welcome

Hi BF..

Thanks for the link... he's sure got some stuff.. I'll refer to this for sure one day.. Re the pedal, I'll more than likely try a local fabricator for some input, (As I'm on the other side of the planet).. I'll probably try & replace the bearings as well..

Cheers

John
