I just acquired (ebay) a 1930-33 Ludwig 4X14 Pioneer Snare...well, parts of one anyway. It's the mahogany shell with the "Pioneer Model Ludwig & Ludwig" round badge, the top hoop engraved with "Pioneer Model", and five of the tube lugs.
I will restore it, but I'm gonna need some parts:
1 - nickel tube lug, mounting holes 1 1/4" on-center, 1 5/8" overall outside. No longer needed
1 - 1920s-30s no flange, snare side hoop, 14".
12 - nickel hoop clips. Still need 4 more
And the hard part:
1 - P338 (Pioneer) Strainer, mounting holes 1 9/16" on-center No longer needed
1 - 1930s snare butt, mounting holes 1 7/8" on-center (?) No longer needed
1 - 1930s wire-wound silk snares long enough for a 14" snare. No longer needed
I can get reproductions for some of these parts, of course, but I'd prefer to use as many "original" period correct parts as possible. I haven't decided what heads to use yet.
I think this snare will be really pretty when completely restored. The shell has already cleaned up great. I just hated to see it possibly being trashed.
Any help out there would be appreciated.
