She turned out nice, man....
I got to see and hear this one face to face last night.
We had a short "Student RK Fest" for a quick minute.
Mine is in the top 5 of my favourite snares right now.

...I only wuz lookin' fer a laff...
But you are correct. These Slingerland drums seem to have the biggest issue with ply separation. I have seen far more complaints from folk about the Sling plies than any other. I would have to speculate, and speculation it is, that the hide glue is particularly vulnerable to moisture.
That said, they are still some of the sweetest sounding drums out there. PLEASE, don't get me wrong folks, I am only making an observation. When you are making the most drums in the world, by far, you are going to have more complaints.
Here is an analogy most of you can understand:
Honda builds almost exactly 10% as many cars as Ford, worldwide....now, many of you own one or the other. What you don't get is a statistic many will fight, but it is the truth.
Honda owners experience, almost to the .01% (that's within a 1/100th of a percentage point) the same exact number of complaints. And, they are relatively the same across the board in terms of what parts/systems are affected.
Now, this is where it gets ugly....most Honda owners will not complain publicly about the problems they experience because they paid....are you ready...?Almost full MSRP....where most Ford owners paid.....ready..?less than publicly available invoice pricing and (Honda owners) are too embarrassed to tell their friends they are having the same problems with their Accord as you are having with your Taurus. (These numbers include trade-in equities/negative equities and/or negotiated sales prices across the spectrum of any given years' sales prices paid per vehicle, and this study was done as a GM sales analysis published about 2-3 years ago...I was selling Nissan at the time and the numbers were posted in one of the big rags).
So, (the hypothesis is) Honda owners tend to suffer privately and quietly, whereas Ford owners will scream bloody murder about a car they know they paid below "market"...whatever that is...if you pay below MSRP, that is the market price. If you pay close to MSRP, that is also....market value.
One important difference....Ford keeps most of the money at home, and the vehicles, according the the real numbers, are just as reliable as Honda, which enjoys a higher quality rating...only in public perception...
Anyway, this is all there is to it, it's all a numbers game.
Nice work - love duco finish.
