I want to put a new (white) reso-dh on my 24" chrome Slingerland bassdrum.
What's best? remo ambassador smooth or coated or should i go for evans or aquarian? What are your experiences?

I like a smooth so I can cut a hole in it. Those multi ply heads are harder to cut holes into.

If you're looking for a classic era correct tone from it, a white ONE ply reso would be the way to go.
Smooth or coated, though the smooth are easier to keep clean, the coated have a bit of control, just a BIT due to the coating.
I don't port mine, but that part is up to you.
