Reso head recommendations

Loading...

I'm sure this has been done to death, but: what's the consensus on reso head choice when using a 2-ply batter? I'm thinking of putting a coated Emperor on my floor tom batter, and I'm not sure whether to put an Emp on the reso as well (to ensure sympathetic vibrations), or whether a single-ply reso is always the way to go.

While I'm at it: will a clear reso lead to a more resonant drum? Or is it generally better to use a coated reso if you've got a coated batter?

Thanks!

Clear reso=more reso action in my experience.

People do all sorts of things depending on what sound they are going for, but in my experience, if I have a 2 ply head on the batter side I either go with a coated ambassador, a clear ambassador, or a Evans "Resonant" head on the bottom. In my experience the thinner and less coated the reso head, the more resonance you get, but also the more you hear any imperfections in the edges.

Hope that helps!
