Replacing badges

First off, what possesses someone to remove badges from drums? What's the process/cost for replacing Ludwig pointy blue/olives badges on 3 drums? I assume I'll need a special tool to do it when and if I can find the badges? Thanks.

I imagine people remove the badges either to sell or when they do a re-wrap. I know that sometimes people removed the pointy blue/olive badges because the corners got stuck on clothes and stuff.

I don't know how to do it, nor do I care to at this point. What are you working on restoring?

Still considering restoring an early 70s 4 piece set of Luddies that needs a lot of other stuff as well.

Most people re move the badge's to re-cover a drum,i have done 1,000's of them in 35+year's..As far as the Ludwig pointy b/l badge's i have them..As far as putting them back on the drum no special tool is needed if you do a few drum's but a the shop i have a custom made tool that i can replace badge's without any problem's.Also on ebay someone's sells tools that would work, but the cheapest waay it this. The way you could put the badge's back on at home is--used a few carriage bolt's,the size need's to be alittle bigger the the grommet, you take one bolt and mount it in a vise face up put the outside of the grommet next to it--hold the drum even then take the other carriage bolt from the inside of drum place it on the grommet tap down the grommet so it's tight to the inside of the shell---make sure to keep the badge even on the outside of the drum with some tape..and you will be putting the badge back on the drum...Mikey

Thanks Mikey, in addition to 3 pointy B/O badges and grommets I would also need:

1. 22" bass hoop with blue sparkle inlay

2. 3 bass lugs with hardware

3. 2 bass spurs

4. 5 bass claws with t-rods

Any idea what all this would cost? Thanks again.
