Just came in possession of a Chicago-era Slingerland Radio King snare. Solid maple shell with reinforcement rings. The rings are separating from the shell and I want to repair them. What would be the best way to do this? I assume gluing and clamping, but is there a method so that I don't potentially damage the wrap or wood with too much compression? You should be able to glue them and clamp them for 24 hours without causing any issues to the shell. I do this quite often. I typically use Dewalt trigger clamps as they have soft(er) rubber removable jaw pads to help reduce marring. If your still worried, on the wrap side I recommend placing a small piece of cheesecloth or a washcloth. The snare looks pretty sweet and I am looking forward to seeing pics of it when your done.
