Repairing a Ludwig Spur Lok hihat stand

Loading...

In the 3rd picture, I noticed there is a clamp around the post. Is this common?

I have the same on a Spur Lok stand as well - what happens with mine is the entire post moves up and down when you move the foot-board.

I have not ventured to disassemble mine yet.

Glenn: Thanks for the eBay link. My clutch is some kind of Frankenclutch botch job obviously. Well, I can use any old clutch really, so that's not a problem

Dionne: Yes, there is a clamp on my stand, just like you say. It's kind of ugly, but I guess it serves as a memory lock.

BTW: It turns out that the threads in the hole on pic 3 are not damaged. A wing screw from a generic bass drum anchor that I have turns out to fit the threads perfectly. Unfortunately it is only 10 mm long (the threaded part), which is too short to grip the tube. Does anyone know a) how long this screw needs to be (16 mm? 20 mm?). Also, is this an M6 wing screw?

Best,

Magnus

Hey Magnus,

The threads for the wing screw (to keep the upper tube in place) should be Standard 1/4" x 20 threading. It's odd that the wing screw that adjusts the leg spread won't work....they should be the same.

Hi vyacheslav,

And thanks for the dimensions of the wing screw. Yeah, I don't know why the other screw doesn't work, perhaps it is damaged. Anyway, it turns out that the wing screw on the Franken-clutch fits the hole that is missing a screw, so if I cannot find a prettier replacement, that one will do.

So it is not an M6 then?

Magnus, here are some photos that may help. I have an 1124-1 stand that I bought new in the 1960s.

The clutch is a threaded rod with an attached collar for the top wing nut. Then there should be a smaller flat threaded nut and a larger flat threaded nut. Then two identical felt washers and a chrome cap that the bottom wing nut tightens against. The chrome cap reads "LUDWIG DRUM CO. CHICAGO. U.S.A."

If you need other images of an original 1124, let me know and I'll see if I can help.

P.S. There was a guy selling replacement plastic connectors awhile ago, but I don't remember who it was.

Hi Magnus,

I went over to my storage today, but was not able to find any of my Atlas parts. My apologies.

Tinman: Thanks for those pics, they are very helpful. I think my Frankenclutch may contain some of the original parts actually! Replacement plastic connectors, that would be something. Let me know if your remember who was offering them.

Mark: Thanks for looking through your spare parts for me. Many thanks.

Magnus, you're welcome. I have a diagram that might help. It's too big to attach here. PM your e-mail and I'll sen it to you.

I've sent out some inquiries about the plastic connector (P-1295 c)

Hello Magnus,

Regret delay, had work to do.

Here are some pics of mine that has been in storage for 40 yrs. Attempted to provide needed dimensions. PhotoShop is acting up so will see. Anything that you want a better pic just holler.

Pretty sure did not buy this new. Some parts may not be original. Anyone that cares to chime in for help on that thanks!

These are "befores". Afters may be awhile :-)

The "plastic" connector looks to be nylon or an expoxy mix on mine. Matters not, it's gonna break. I'd make a replacement out of alum or S-Steel.

Didn't know I was missing the tilting screw so thank you for that. Also, had never noticed the hose clamp :-)
