I'd give the seams and the chipped area a real good scrub with a toothbrush and dishwashing detergent.. Then a good rinse with water before getting started..

Fixed and holding. Built up the chip on the edge with three applications of weld on #16. Did the seam in one application, and used straps to jold it in place for thrre days. Would not hesitate to try it again. Thanks to all who helped and to those who said to buy a new shell, or junk this one. I just bought a rare green vistalite shell for twenty five bucks and fixed it with eleven dolars worth of glue! It CAN be done i have tested it with one head and rim and it sounds good!
