Removing Wrap Glue Residue

Loading...

From mr. mark

I tried another experiment last night.I heated the glue film with my heat gun until the surface of the shell was mildly hot to the touch, then I immediately took a length of duct tape and applied it to the heated areaand pressed it on the shell firmly. Then slowly peeled it off to pull the softened glue film with it. It worked on some areas pretty well. Not sure if there is an optimum heat to use for this technique. I think a tape with an even stickier backing would work better.Mark

Now that is an interesting idea.

Thank you!

So I ended-up buying a quart of Zinsser StripFast stripper at my local Menards and this stuff Rocks. It's a thick paste stripper that softens the glue residue in a few minutes. I was taking it off in sheets with a putty knife and remarkably didn't seem to have an adverse affect on the wood finish at all. I did both the 12" and 14" toms and wiped them down with lacquer thinner and left them to dry. Will go over them again with scotchbrite pads and see how they look. Getting very close to ordering my wrap. Thinking about Sky Blue Pearl and I'll be using the 3M contact cement I got from Precision a few years ago.

Got a couple holes to fill on the bass first. Will post some pics.

found the solution a year ago when redoing my Rogers kit..

go to yr small hardware store..

(made by Circa1851) small tin can called "degouper" the can is yellow red and blk in color..about $7 a can..

rub it on...let sit for a cpl mins...then rerub on more and use a rough towel and rub the glue from top to bottom (rub only in 1 direction).

(the glue will come off like peanut butter on yr finger tips)...

You will thank me..

( i went back to the store and bought the remaining 3 cans)..!Walking

If I'm not mistaken, the 3M contact cement may not work well if you've had it this long. There may even be a note about this on the can/bottle itself. You can also check with Precision. I've had a quart of this for a few years and it just didn't work well when I tried it. Let's see what others have to say about this.
