Removing whitewash from a 30s or 40s Leedy Tom

Loading...

I have a Leedy tom--wooden top rim, wooden lugs and lug boxes, and tacked (glued, no brads showing) that a previous owner white-washed/ painted white to match the snare and BD.

Any safe way to remove the paint, esp. from the lugs, top rims and lug boxes. Thank you@

I'm removing white spray paint from a Slingy set at the moment. Goof Off seems to work. Kind of labor intensive but the wrap (so far) seems pristine under the paint. I'm using 0000 steel wool until the paint starts to dissolve. Then switching to a scratch pad / sponge combo then an old wash rag for final cleanup. Green sparkle, new color for me! This is going to take a while to do. I'm looking at a fall / winter project on this one.
