Hi
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to remove spray paint from the finish on a floor tom I bought? It's an early 70's Ludwig floor tom 18''x20''. It's a white cortex finish that someone painted over with black spray paint. I'm trying to save the white cortex because it's the same color as my set and will be an great addition to it. Thank You in advance to anyone that has a idea.

Bob, first off Welcome to the VDF, good to have you with us! there is a thread about this very subject, I can't find it you may want to search it out here, have you tried goo gone or citrus strip, of course you'll need to strip the shell down of all the hardware mounted on it to do this, put the goo gone or citrus strip on it, let it sit on it for awhile then try to rub it off!
I have had good luck with some Graffiti Paint remover I found at Home Depot. Likely a cheap spray paint, but if it is more professional job, you may need something stronger.
Use the search function, look for a post by poppy he has had great success and a good post on the subject.

It is a cheap paint job very thin coat. I'll look up th Poppy post and also check into Graffiti remover at the Depot.

I had good luck removing spray paint with a flat-head screw driver, razor blade and a putty knife:

The shell was not sanded before being painted, fortunately so it made getting the paint off pretty easy. Once it was stripped and cleaned, I used some good car wax to remove scratches and bring the shine back...
