DO NOT get acetone near that wrap!! WD 40 is cool but naptha/lighter fluid works very well and leaves no film. It's also used on very fragile violin finishes.

Believe it or else!

just an update. lighter fluid was really gentle and easily took off the goo. i cut a rag the size of the tape mess saturated it and carefully laid it on the stuff. 20 minutes later i spent about 5 mins massaging and changing rags with fresh fluid. it soon was all gone. very easy. lighter fluid seemed to me the least caustic of all the options. the wrap under the tape mess is now yellowed. whateves. next step is hardwear polish and replacing that badge. thanks for all the help homies!

From john rutsey

hey guys thanks for the response. i have wd 40 round the house so i will try that when i get a chance. goo gone and goof off are great products i just didnt want any chance at damaging the wrap. this is my first full vintage kit and am looking forward to many years of ownership. ive been so busy the last week i haven't been able to do anything but work and sleep. but my job does come with its perks. i am running a follow spot for mister ringo starr tonight and must say its the highest honor i have had so far. hopefully i can start restoring the drums next week when things slow down. i will keep you posted on my progress. thanks again guys for the info. this page is awesome. thanks! Ryan.

Congrats on getting the toe muck off.

How was Ringo? Were you running a truss spot or house spot?

thanks tnsquint. i was running an upstage truss spot. just a backlight for ringo when he wasnt behind the kit and also for solos and such. it was alot of fun and the band sounded great. greg bissonet was very good. the show the night before was a winner too. hall and oats. they were awesome and were filming for live at darryls house. all and all a great weekend for music. cheers!
