Remove textured paint from bearing edges?

Loading...

Im restoring an old set of Yamaha's and the floor tom has a textured paint on the interior and bearing edges.

To me it makes sense to have clean smooth bearing edges.

Is it worth it to sand them clean?

In such a case I'd say it would be essential to sand down the textured paint from the bearing edges.

You don't have to go crazy and remove all signs of paint _ unless you really want to do so _ but you do need a smooth and consistent edge.

You are not going to hurt the drum by doing so _ and it shouldn't take you much more than 10 to 15 minutes _ with an assorted variety of grits _ and then seal them with some paste wax _ after you get down to a reasonably smooth edge.

thank you, thats what I thought as well.

I was surprised to see factory texture paint on the edges.
