Hi. I recently bought a cheap ( 150 euro) Ludwig from 1969 in Psychedelic Red, and have the same problem. Interior of my basdrum was painted in black Chewie:

I bought in a local paint store, some kind of paintremover. You just put it on old paint, wait a few min, and than scratch it away. If neccesery, do it twice. It does not destroy wood.

P.S. My drams was painter TWICE!!!! First painted red, and then painted over with black colour. But it works,

Hi,

I had a set of Luddies with paint AND urethane on the interiors. Red paint. I stripped the paint with commercial stripper--using all safety precautions. Most of the paint came off easily, though the dimples in the wood under lug washers took a fair bit of work.

The interiors were part of a whole refurb and rewrap project that took on a life of its own.

Main advice, the interior veneer is pretty thin. Sand it too hard and it's sawdust. Have fun. You should wind up with a sweet looking kit.

Since these are "Vintage Drums" you should do research before stripping anything. The interior finishes that you removed might have been original to the kit. In doing so you just lost "value" to the kit.

The inside of my basdrum was painted in black. I bought the "colorremover" further and applied it on the black color. Everything was easy to scrape away. By contrast, showed that during the black color, was the bas drum painted in red??? This color seems to siting very much harder than the first layer of color. And under the red color, you can see that the bas drum is clear lacquered.

Did Ludwig ever paint the shell inside red????Cooked Egg

I found one more Pscychedelic red, painted red inside....????

Is it shure that Ludwig did not paint original some shells red??? I never read about it, but there is several old basdrum I found on internet, all Ludwig, that have been painted red inside basdrum shell?!?!?

I just came across a beautiful red sparkle ludwig hollywood with a painted red inside. At first I thought that the guy painted it red but I can see the date stamp. Has anybody heard of this? I can't find anything about it online.
