The best way to hide a refinnish, is to mention factory and take the pics. from back there !!
The seller's statement about the M stamp is correct and, if I'm not mistaken, no other drum manufacturer did this. So, I'm quite sure this is a Slingerland drum. As for the finish, I can't help you. There are many good fellas here that know a lot more about Slingerland drums than I, so I'm sure someone will enlighten us soon enough.
Have a good Monday!
From back there you can`t tell anything but color, wich I`m not familiar on Slingy, and anyone at any time could mess with the finnish. It looks well kept. Are you gonna keep it ?
Looks like it was a painted shell with an outer ply of maple that has been refinished.
Yep that drum has been refinished. It was for sale on DFO and the seller stated that he picked it up from the Chicago show.
Still a nice drum!
I was considering purchasing this drum to go with a Slingy natural maple kit that I'm putting together. I contacted the seller several times and each time I did so he responded in a timely, courteous, professional and honest manner. The bottom line is that he didn't believe the finish on this snare would match that of my other drums. Here's the post from the DFO addressing this particular snare: http://www.drumforum.org/index.php?/topic/64043-5x14-60s-slingerland-maplemahogany-3-ply-snare/
I was looking at that one too on the other site. Very nice drum and good price. Plus the stand and case go with. Badge serial # was 36809.
