You don't see a lot of Rogers kits with wood finish...at least I haven't. Based on this Gretsch deal I can't wait to see em!

It's ironic that you can only do that with a kit that wasn't natural walnut to begin with, as I found when I tried to restore mine - the original factory stain was soaked through the outer ply, and could even have bled through to the one below. To strip it back to an even colour prior to finishing would have meant destroying the shell, and unless it's uniform, it will end in tears - a blotchy mess!

Thanks! I have been enjoying these lately. As for the Rogers kit, it will happen but I have a few other kits ahead of it right now. Mine is a Londoner as well.

Great find to begin with and stunning job in the restoration Randy! Amazing that you found such beautiful shells under the WMP. Must be an early kit given the position of the rail mount.

Don't forget to show us a pic with the snare in there for the contrast.

Speaking if the contrasting idea, I'm getting really settled into jet black on the bass and toms with ared onyx snare and matching inlay in the hoops. I've been thinking that it's odd that it hasn't appeared more along the way.

Great job! Looks like you were lucky and didn't have any multiple exterior ply seams which are common on their covered shells.

Thanks everyone. There are a few seams on the floor tom but nothing compared to others I have seen. I did get pretty lucky to find such nice shells under the wrap.

Dan, I would really love to see your Black/ Red Onyx combo. That sounds very appealing to me.
