Red Evans Hydraulic Heads

Loading...

Call me obsessive, but over the years I have managed to find the red Evans Hydraulic heads for all of my 14 piece kit (not for snare). I gives the kit a more complete look in terms of collectability. While I never gig my kit, I do use it for practice and, though it looks good, I probably would prefer playing on pinstripes or something similar.

Was quite a project locating all these heads, as the were only made for a short time in the '80's. Evans did continue with blue and clear, but obviously, doesn't help me!Eye Ball

I still have extra, NOS, for my 18" floor tom.

Here's a shot of my toms. I've cut down my kit as we've recently redone our family room and pressure from my wife........

Rest of my kit, including Octobans, are stored in my closet! :(

I too liked the look of the red Evans hydraulic heads. Why don't they make heads in single ply different colors? People would color coordinate their heads to the shell color if it was available. There was a head company in the 80's that did make multi-color heads but I don't remember what they were called.

I think it was Remo who made the other series of color heads. I actually spoke to one of the marketing/Product Management people at Remo about any NOS laying around. After he finished laughing, he said they still will produce colored heads, but they would be custom and I thought they were pretty high priced. They used to make a mirrored series, gold, silver, red and a few more. He didn't think they were that popular and that is his best guess at why they discontinued them. As I recall (more than a few years ago), they were not thin, but kind of thick and heavy. Regardless, I wasn't going to have custom-made heads for my kit.

Decided then that I would search for the Red Evans heads, as long as it took.

Did manage to find all my sizes, including my low-pitch Tama Octobans. Again, they were more "thuddy" and I much preferred the thin, single ply Tama heads that came with the Octobans.
