red drums in the attic.......

Like Hobbs mentioned, at least you were able to verify that they were nothing to worry about. I hate when you hear about some drums with a vague description but then they are gone before you can get to them and then you (or I do anyway) obsess about what might have been....figuring it was a 20's Black Beauty in mint shape when it was most likely a rusty First Act snare.

One of the reasons I generally avoid Craigslist, anything worthwhile is gone in a flash and I'd just rather not know what I missed.

LOL......I'm still alive.....and.......(drum roll please).............it was a Frankenstein collection of MIJ....not even worth the trip. Was so disappointed. I don't know about the rest of the country but here on the east coast, vintage drum sets have become non-existent. I have not seen a vintage set for sale in almost 2 years. No incredible yard sale finds...no flea market treasures.....nothing....oh well.....maybe next time...Keep on Pl

Also in NJ. I've seen a few at sales around here, but plenty of them are ridiculously overpriced.

I did pick up my 1960s Ludwigs for $60 last year down in Franklin though, but since then I've seen someone trying to sell like a mid 70s Rogers set at an estate sale in Union for like $2000 and a late 70s

black Slingerland with concert toms for like $1000. Not even nice colors!

For the past several months, and maybe even a couple of years or so, I've seen the decline in the sale of vintage drums gain momentum. The reason for this is because those around my part of Canada, are asking ridiculous prices for Ludwig, Gretsch, and the occasional Rogers or Slingerland. Currently there is a vintage red sparkle Slingerland student model snare drum from the 60s for over 300 CAN. That's just ridiculous in my opinion. Mind you, there are some decent deals out there for a couple of vintage classic Ludwig kits ranging from 1600 for a silver sparkle downbeat, to a gold sparkle and blue oyster super classic for 1800. But nobody is biting. The seller now has "please contact" noted on the ad rather than the actual price. Not enough vintage collectors or players around these parts. I personally have exhausted my search and collecting drums because I have no need for it anymore. The only thing I collect now is vintage Paiste cymbals whenever they pop up or if there is a great deal. I now have one vintage Ludwig acrolite and that's only because I preferred it over my supra, which i sold 2 months ago, for 200 and it was close to excellent condition with only a few pitted spots on the chrome. Vintage drums selling and collecting is literally dead up here. Whatever the reason, i think it's a shame..
