Read all about my mongrel Premier kit!!!!

Dammit!!!! I saw my dream kit on ebay for six freakin' bills!!!! But then again, it had two 16" floor toms. bunnyman needs an 18" floor tom!!!!

This is where my role as drum hot rodder rather than restorer comes into play. I rescued these drums from being relegated to trash or worse. The core kit came from some stupid hilljack. The 24" kick was a marching refugee. The 18" floor tom was a custom order (www.tcdrumshells.com), and the Gretsch snare is an E bay Frankenstein job. Gone from the kit is the 12x11" APK mystery wood tom, replaced by the 13x9" tom from the core kit. Yes, red powdercoat rims were the order of the day as they were CHEAP!!!!! I have to be practical, and this is a PLAYER kit!!!!! You may call me Dr. Frankenstein!!!!!

I know that there are so many things wrong with these. I am not even attempting to restore these, as they were basket case drums!!!! But they were SO MUCH worse off BEFORE I got to them. Now, they are being loved and played, even if they don't have all of the correct bits and bobs.

Go to my blog www.randomdougstuff.blogspot.com for the details. Feel free to peruse my blog for particulars on this kit. Also, feel free to ask questions; however- please be kind. I am very proud of what they have become.

I do not claim to be an expert on Premier drums, just a HUGE fan of them.

jomeli, Purdie-

Thanks for the kind words!!!!

Finding an intact Premier kit in the configuration I like has been very, very hard. Yea- the kicks are birch (24") and mahogany (22"), but they sound the same with triggers (easiest way to get sound reinforcement with kick drums).

The only drums that beat old Premiers to my long ears is my old Rogers kit with 16 and 18" floor toms. I have been rocking the huge drums since I was 17 (and I am quite a bit older than that, fellas!!!). But I have been missing my old Premiers since I left home so long ago...

Premier drums are so much better than I even remembered, and this is with cheapo rims!!!! I know I could get similar sounds (compared to die cast rims) with solid maple rims (and I may do that when I get some extra $$$).

Again- thanks for indulging me!!!!!

Also- for those of you looking for an 18" floor tom for your Premier kit nd are sick of trolling e bay, don't forget to contact Pat Budnick of www.tcdrumshells.com and he can hook you up!!!. I think he could build other vintage-style shells if you give him the particulars.
