Do you guys think 250$ CAD is fair for this drum? It looks like its in great shape. I dont seem to see stuff like this for sale here as often as id like and i have a 54 WFL bass and tom with a 60s Ludwig floor tom so i wouldnt mind having mismatched kit as long as the sound was there. Thanks!

I'd say thats a fair price for it.....but I'd try to get more detailed pics of it before you buy.......it seems like it could be a re-wrap.
Ah, ya both my band mate and i were wondering about that being a rewrap possibly. I was also wondering about the baseball bat throw offs. I didnt know that WFL started it and Ludwig followed? My 60s Ludwig floor tom has one very similar so i was a bit suspicious. Thanks again!

WFL era drums had the small round knob muffler....a baseball bat muffler would be incorrect. They didn't come out with that until 1962 or 1963.
Ah! No wonder, ive been told that about baseball throw offs as well. So i guess the one on this snare isnt what i thought it was. Ya the one on my floor tom looks more like a bat and has a couple small lines around it.
Thanks for clearing that up!
L.D. is mistaken.
i had a 1957 WFL Superclassic and it had the baseball bat throw off. (http://vintagedrumguide.com/images/ludwig_snaredrums/1948_wfl_snare_drums2.jpg)
also, to be able to tell if its a re-wrap..have the seller take a picture of the inside seam of the drum. WFL wraps would have been embedded actually inside the shell. if you don't see the wrap starting like a shell ply would..then you know its a re-wrap.
judging by the dark spotting i see in the sparkle..it looks to be original.
but this is just coming form a guy who had a snare just like this one..
;)
I think we are just confusing mufflers and throwoffs here. My kit is a 1948-1952 WFL Super Classic. The 5.5" snare has the P(I can never recall the number) throwoff. Which has the baseball bat looking throw arm.
MbbW, I think yours is absolutely period correct because the throwoff lever has the flutes at the end rather than the later round rings.
As for determining if it's a re-wrap LL is dead on.
