Rarity & Value of a Trixon kit

I have that same throne,..only it`s Sonor !! To close it ,you just pick it up, to open it ,you just turn it upsidedown !! Sticker in the same spot too !!

Trixon ended production in 1972 and both Tromsa and Sonor started kicking out designs immediately after that , that were very Trixon reminiscent. Trixon had somewhere in the neighbourhood of 700 employees ,I believe, so undoubtedly quite a few of them ended up in other German drum factories----ideas got borrowed. When Trixon quit, all of a sudden there were Tromsa(and the American marketed stencil, Roxy) drums around in Croco wrap and snare stands, labelled Roxy, that were clearly made with Trixon moulds or even in the Trixon factory.

no. there was a TX7 Grey Stripe as well, does it show any signs of fading? the grey has more contrast and this seems from the photographs to be that way.-----probably not as common as the blue but definitely out there. One thing bears mentioning about this kit----it has the bass mounted cymbal arm still; an unusual feature because I think most of them ended up as rottiserie skewers.now.... they are not everyones cup of tea??------so my starting BID is 8 T-Rods and claws for it. no you say? o.k. then, 20 T-Rods and claws...........48 T-Rods and claws, 150 T-rods and claws: that's my final offer...................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................1000 T-rods and claws?

Ha Ha Mr Calfskin !! you are so right mate..out of the 5 Trixon kits I own.. only 2 of them have the bass mounted cymbal arm..they are as rare as chocolate rain!!!..$$$$$

The funny thing about the cymbal arm is the seller never did use it as he is a lefty. That arm is most likely as pristine as the day he bought it. It even has the original blue felt which Ingo pointed out to me.

Picked up the drums today and all I can say is WOW. Talk about a time capsule. The wrap on these is almost perfect except for a couple of small scratches. It even came with the original tuning key. Tomorrow I will begin the task of taking them apart and giving them a good cleaning. I will need to get some input on the dates of the ride, crash and hi hats as I am not very proficient in this. The crash and hi hats are very light. Once I get finished cleaning I will post some pictures.

that's great!!! always nice to hear about a fine, complete good condition Trixon kit out there working. are the cymbals Trixon stamped? -------i just received the last( temporarily lost!!!) box from Germany containing the bass, snare and rack tom of the teardrop Gold Croco kit that I bought on ebay.de about 2 months ago. unbeknownst to me it also had the key and a spare set of the black 18 strand original snarewires with it and the original cases for all. these ones were kept in cases , so the chrome is almost pristine and they are 4 (+ matching Bongos) of the uncommon drums that had Birch 5 ply inch sized shells with the teardrop lugs-----they were transitional in 1963. ......like to see the cymbals, especially if they are Trixon stamped.

Calfskin, that sounds like a fine kit you purchased. You must have been coming unglued at the thought of that box being lost. Those little extras are like Christmas. I can see buying some stuff from Germany in the next little while. I have been scouring EBay, but it's slim pickins. The cymbals included with my kit are not stamped Trixon, but are a nice mixture of vintage Zildjian A's. I'm still new to dating cymbals so once I get my macro lens from work I will take some pics of the stamps. I did weigh them and are as follows:

14'' hi hats top 747 g bottom 774 g

18'' crash 1279 g

20'' ride 1942 g

All of these are much lighter than all of the other vintage A's I own. According to the original owner the hats & ride were purchased somewhere around 1970 as was the crash, but it was used then.

The previous owner is working on trying to find the original snare drum, but it's a long shot (fingers crossed). Finding it will be like winning the lottery as I think I will be hard pressed to find one in grey stripes. I guess I will have to make due with the Rogers Dynasonic for now (insert pity here).

I currently have the drums in teardown so once they are cleaned & polished they will be ready for photo's.

Can you post some pics of your Gold Croco kit. That is a really cool finish.

I will but I havn't been camera ready for a while and no time to address it. I don't want to put out lousy phone pix . Here's the ebay link for the kit, though. http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150600311163&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:DE:1123

Calfskin, those are some nice drums and a good price to boot. That Croco finish just screams vintage. Was it costly to have them shipped?

I look forward to seeing your photo's after they are given the once over.
