Only available in 1976, these 9500 Series wrapped drums were also available w/o wrap as the 9600 Series. Three ply shells with 3 ply re-rings. The 9600 Series eventually won out in popularity and became just the Superstars.

I saw those and thought maybe European Super's could be covered OR stained...1 year only...cool!But not $2,200 worth of cool (to me,anyway). Are they non-zolocoated Imperialstars?Different wood? Now that I'm a Superstar owner,I'd love to find a rering Imperialstar set.I spent the 70's-80's dissing the "invader"-never even tried them. Now I'm a convert.Burger Kin

That's a cool kit....almost a transition sort of offering.

I wonder if that is one of those "foil wraps" which I can't remember the correct name for or if it is a solid colour plastic? It looks like a foil wrap set I have because the colour seems to have depth.

Anyway, very cool. Can't afford it and wouldn't pay it, even if it were in North America, but interesting to see.

Cool Kit,never seen such dark wood on a Superstar, unless it was stained I would say that is not Birch. I think the Superstars were offered with or without re rings, but thought they were all 6 ply.

I found an Imperial Star kit in that color for my Neice, looked like the same color, definitely a wrap, the kit I found had was mixed some shells had rings, others did not.

The earlier Superstars from 76 to early 79 were 4 ply 6mm shells with re rings and were all suppose to be Japanese birch. From some time in 79,Tama started making supes with 6 ply,9 mm shell with no re rings.

Traditionally except for the 76 9600 series or customs made drums, superstars were stained and ply coated first in a matt finish, and then in a gloss finish. The interiors of all of these drums were also stained with the same stain as the exterior color stain.

That's what confusing about that kit.I've never seen the interior of the 76 9600 series drums that were wrapped,so that may be factory stained, since these series of drums were all birch,no mahogany, and no maple.Just 100% birch.

My superstars are vintage 77,and are 4 ply 6mm shells with re rings, and the finish is called walnut( the same color as super mahogany) and it's a satin poly finish.
