Rare Snare?

Loading...

I haven't been able to identify the date value of my Slingerland snare, mainly because it doesn't fit perfectly into any of the posted catagories. Can anyone help? Here is a description and pic:

Slingerland Snare

Shell: wood

Finish: original may have been Diamond Pearl or Antique

Badge: pre WWII: Brass Cloud Badge (Chicago)

Dimensions: 7-8" x 14"

Interior Finish: Natural

Hardware: 8 streamline lugs, Rim-Bottom: Single Flange hoop and Rim Clip

Strainer: rapid strainer for string, no extension bridges, standard butt no date stamp or markings

I'm afraid your picture is too small and unclear, which, even combined with your description, makes it impossible to give a definitive analysis. If you could provide a bit better imagery, include an interior view, etc that would help enormously.

That said, a few observations / questions. The drum certainly has been worked over, as you indicate. The top hoop and tension rods visible are not original. I can't clearly see the badge but if pre-WWII as you indicate then the 3-point strainer is a retrofit post-war. It looks like the bottom hoop might be single-flanged with clips, is that right? Is the interior mahogany (reddish brown) or maple (blondish) along with the maple reinforcing rings?
