Here is a pretty unusual Slingerland tom tom. It appears to be either a Broadcaster era tom tom (1935) or one of the very first Radio Kings. The chrome hoops do not bear the Slingerland engraving. Notice that the Streamlined lugs are tapped. The 9x13 shell is a two ply with a thin outer layer of mahogany and a thicker inner ply of poplar. That old tom holder is the #1285 which had been in use in the early 1930's. This should clean up quite well. Now I have to locate the rest of the set!Violin

Different tone control vs. your other post?
Mike Curotto
No, this is the interior shot of the drum. However, this red pad version of....here it comes.....The Harold R. Todd tone control is usually green. And I may have to correct myself here. The single pad muffler does not appear in the 1936 catalog and the 1938 catalog shows a double pad version. So, my guess is that this drum is from late 1936 to 1937 or so. That rules it being from the Broadcaster era of 1935.
i just realized that I did not mention the reason that this drum is so unusual! It has eight lugs. I have never seen an eight lug 9x13 Radio King tom. Sorry I left out the relevant details.
Mark, yes that is a new one to me also !
