I came across this gem in my storage unit. I actually forgot I had it! It is a very early 6.5x14 COB Dyna-Sonic, serial number 1664! Talk about a rare drum that is part of history from Rogers’s golden days! I had intended to work on it and eventually get it playable, but never got around to it. I can only imagine how this beast would sound.Now that replacement lugs and snare frames are available at a reasonable cost, she could be enjoyed again with very little effort.I believe this drum came out of a school. It has certainly seen extensive use, but is all there (except for the first generation snare frame), right down to the gate covers on the bottom hoops and the square head tension rods. Original clock face strainer with the “D” stamp and correct long throw off. Believe it or not, the hoops are in great shape.The lugs are very nice as well. Some have cracks, but none are trashed. They would make excellent candidates to be reinforced using Tommykat’s proven method. I would be inclined to reinforce vs replace (even though replacements are available) because they are so nice.The shell has seen the most wear. It does have a lot of scratches and numerous soft dents as would be expected of a school drum. The dents could be remedied using a soft rubber mallet, a sand bag, and some patience, but I would be inclined to have a local horn repair person take care of them. Some are under lugs and some aren’t. You could always leave the shell as is, reinforce thelugs, add a modern Rogers snare frame, and play it.This drum was built like a tank, and is very heavy. The fact that it has been so well used by so many students is evidence of that fact. Will it be a top shelf pristine collector drum? No, but it would be a very interesting addition to any collection. It deserves to be a great playing drum again. Talk about MOJO!I attached photos, all taken with a flash to accentuate the condition. Sorry about the sideways photos.In all my years of collecting, I have only seen a couple of these deep B&B Dynas and they were very expensive. I believe I saw another school version recently listed at around $1000. Someone needs to make this a Spring project and enjoy this drum for decades to come. I am asking $350 plus actual shipping costs.
