I have a Radio King tom I'm restoring. It has a weird wrap that needs to come off. It's more like wallpaper than a thicker traditional wrap. Trying to scrap it off doesn't work and sanding seems like a very long tedious process. Should I try some sort of stripper or heat gun?
The wrap is beyond saving for any purists out there.
Have you tried hot water rag soaking an area first ?
Just keep in mind the wrap was still tucked into the seam back then. So you'll need to make a nice straight edge cut at the end. And the seam will retain the end piece. This if your certain it's a factory job. Post some pictures if you can.
Try acetone, put some on a rag [gloves!], soak an area. Should somewhat "melt" the mac tac or whatever is on there, allow for peeling. Slow peeling :)
This is where, if anyone knows a reason not to use acetone on drums, chime in! I used it extensively to remove black paint from a Club Date floor tom interior whilst leaving the original white paint intact.
