Hey, so I pulled the ring out. (I lost sleep thinking I would have to use this drum shell for fire wood) when I pulled the resonant side reinforcing ring out the shell was still very oblong shaped- no way a head would fit! I was lucky that everything is still in good shape. I saw some post where guys were putting the rings in 180 degree from original location. When I tried this it was exactly the same. Still out of round over 3/16". I thought about it for a bit and installed the ring 1/4 turn to the right and dry clamped it. Low and behold the shell went round within may 1/16". I can deal with that. Actually I believe it will get even closer when the glue is involved and has all of the clamps in place. This makes me happy. I will keep you posted on how it turns out. I'm going to find my camera and post pics tonight.

You could easily pull it out of round if it is partially glued then clamped. That`s why Mikey suggested to open the ring if it was off the drum. You want it to spring into place. But since yours is partially installed, it may be best to put the hoop on, wrap a thick rope around it a few times and use the rope to adjust the round before clamping !!

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!
