I think the badge and diamond plate on the strainer are 1950s. I would guess the shell is 3 ply but it's difficult to see from the pics. However, there are no snare extenders on the strainer and butt ends, and no extra holes where they would normally be mounted. They are standard on all Radio Kings, correct?

Btw, I have a 6.5" 3-ply and it sounds fantastic!

As already mentioned it's a 50's model and it's most definitely a 3 ply shell not a solid maple shell.

This is a Concert King model not a Radio King. No snare extensions and inward facing slider on strainer. 3-ply would be expected. '53-'54 by badge and small beaver tail lugs. Hoops are suspect but I will defer to V-more on that.

I have a similar looking drum but it is a 15" in diameter model. Mine is a Radio King model according to catalogs of the era but it has a three ply shell, as did other "Radio King" snares. The solid shell is what most people think is the determining factor when the term "radio king" is attached to a drum but that isn't always the case, at least to Slingerland's marketing at the time.

I'm not sure about those hoops though. They look die-cast to me.

Hey K.O. got some pictures of yours? 15" diameter is a common Concert King size.

Nothing handy but it's 8 x 15. Still has the original Gut snares and calf heads. I don't think the heads have ever been off the drum. Mahogany exterior finish, gold "dog tag" badge 3 ply shell, but the hoops are engraved "Radio King". Maybe it is a Concert King rather than a Radio King but that's basically just marketing jargon anyhow.
